Environmentally friendly cast resin insulated transformers
There are many names for transformers, and they can be called by different names. We use cast-resin insulated transformers, which are a type of dry-type insulated transformer. It can also be called an epoxy insulated transformer.
Cast resin insulated transformers are often used in environments where fire and personnel risks must be eliminated. At the same time, operational safety must be 100%. Examples include transformers for heavy industry, mines, tunnels, hospitals, airports, data centers, shopping malls and sports arenas. Our environmentally friendly transformers are found in thousands of such facilities around the world, so we know what is required. That's why we only use selected European manufacturers, each of them experts in their field. You can therefore rest assured that we can always offer a transformer that is tailored to your particular application.
Why should I choose an environmentally friendly cast resin insulated transformer from Unitrafo?
- Contains no liquids, minimizing the risk of poisoning the environment and people
- Non-explosive and self-extinguishing in case of external fire. No costly fire protection equipment needed
- Unlike conventional dry-type insulated transformers, cast resin insulated transformers can be used to a greater extent in environments with high humidity and heavy soiling
- Fiberglass reinforced windings minimize the risk of cracking and make the transformer insensitive to rapid temperature changes
- Molded-in, vacuum-free windings - Partial discharges <10 pC, minimizing the risk of breakdown
- Can be installed in ambient temperatures from -60°C to +60°C and can therefore be used in both arctic and tropical environments
- The thermal inertia of the windings makes them resistant to short-term overloads
- Can be designed for all possible applications, such as harmonic drift, seismic stresses and varying load cycles
- Also available for outdoor installation with special enclosures up to IP56
- High short circuit strength
- Easy installation - saves time
- Virtually maintenance-free

Our dry-type insulated transformers
Our cast resin insulated transformers, adapted for industry, are available in two standard versions: Environment Eko2® and Environment Plus® - both with different levels of idle and power losses so you can choose the right transformer for your needs. All types of course also follow Ecodesign Directive; EU Regulation 548/2014 phase 2.
We also manufacture these transformers for inverter drives, magnetization, earthing, wind power and other purposes. Some transformers for special applications do not need to be manufactured according to Eco design and therefore, if necessary, you can design a type that fits exactly the needs you have. Please contact us if you would like to know which types you can use for your particular application.
Eco-friendly transformer - A good deal for both industry and the environment
In 2011 we introduced Miljö Plus®, a type of transformer that has become standard for many of our customers. Miljö Plus® has extremely low idle and load losses and has therefore become a big seller to industries, which generally have a higher average load than, for example, grid companies.
Under In 2014, we introduced our Miljö Eko®. This type was developed earlier than necessary so that even before the Ecodesign requirements came into force, you could buy a transformer that was guaranteed to comply with the new rules. Since its introduction, we have delivered thousands of transformers of this type.
2017 saw the arrival of the latest transformer in our environmental series, Environment Eko2®. It meets the requirements of the EU Eco design Tier 2, which came into force on July 1, 2021. Today, this is the new "standard transformer" So if you want a future-proof plant at a competitive price, this is the one to choose.
What type of transformer should I have?
In general, we recommend Environment Eko2® - for low to medium loads and Environment Plus® - for medium to high loads.
If you want to see in more detail how the different loss values affect the total cost, we recommend that you visit our calculator page. There are several useful calculations for those who are considering investing in a new transformer.
General facts for Cast resin insulated transformers
Gentle transformations for the environment
They do not contain any liquids, toxins or gases that could be harmful. They can be placed outdoors in sensitive areas, for example near water sources.
Safe transformers
Cannot self-ignite and thus cannot cause a fire. In case of external fire they are self-extinguishing.
Economical transformers
The installation does not require any additional safety arrangements and the transformers can usually be installed close to the load. Overall, this results in significant savings in installation costs.
Moisture resistant transformers
Compared to conventional dry-type transformers, they are more moisture resistant and can withstand aggressive environments better. Cast resin insulated windings minimize the risk of cracking and make the transformer insensitive to rapid temperature changes
Competitive transformers - for all applications
Transformers for distribution, drive and magnetization. Power transformers, zero-point transformers and special adaptations, for example with reduced magnetic fields.
